Industry and Technology Career Descriptions
Airbrush/Screen Printing
Students learn to use airbrush techniques to prepare a variety of creative designs for T-shirts, lettering, entertainment packaging, cake decorating, advertising posters and signs, and illustration and photograph restoration. This class includes theory and laboratory exercises and instruction to computer-generated artwork. Students may specialize in mechanical and industrial designs and be designated Airbrush Artist, Technical, or in photograph restoring and be designated Airbrush Artist, Photography.

Air Conditioning and Heating
This course provides entry-level and upgraded training in heating, air conditioning and refrigeration. Instruction covers the following areas: basics of air conditioning, fundamentals of heating, troubleshooting, basic electricity, electrical circuits and motors used in refrigeration, silver brazing and soldering, am probes, millimeters, and recovery refrigerant systems. Students should have mechanical aptitude. Students may participate in workplace learning as part of this course.

Architectural Drafting
This course prepares students for a variety of careers related to the field of architecture. The student will be involved in creating the drawings required for the design and construction of residential or commercial buildings. Students will utilize both manual and CAD drafting techniques. Software used includes AutoCad LT2000I, 3D Home Architect Deluxe, Microsoft Word and PowerPoint. Integrated throughout the course are career preparation and academic standards.

Automotive
This course provides entry-level skill training in suspension and steering, electrical/electronic systems, brakes, and engine performance. Learning areas also include engine tune-up, tires, auto cooling and operation of special electronic testing equipment. Integrated throughout the course are academic and career technical standards. Students that complete 2-years of Automotive are eligible to participate in community classroom which means they will be placed with an Automotive Dealership as an intern. Students who complete this course should contact their college counselor regarding advanced standing and/or challenging introductory automotive courses offered at Chaffey and Citrus Colleges. Students can take this class 4 semesters.
Automotive Collision Repair/Refinishing
This course provides students hands-on training and experience in collision repair. Instruction is provided in welding, metal straightening, forming, grinding, plastic filler application, sanding, buffing, and painting of automobile bodies. Steam cleaning, masking, glass removal/installation, detailing and final preparation work are also included. This course is articulated with Chaffey College for the Auto Body Paint and Repair Career Path.

Auto Body Paint/Repair/Finishing
Actual training and instruction is provided in straightening, welding, forming, filing, grinding, sanding, buffing, finishing, and painting automobile bodies. Masking, steam cleaning, glass installation, and preparing preparation work are also included. This course is articulated with Chaffey College for the Auto Body Paint and Repair Career Path.

Auto Performance and Customization
This course will explore the application of aftermarket automotive components. Modifications of interior, exterior, drive train and other components will be addressed. Theory and hands-on applications are addressed through student projects that incorporate fabrication, utilization of aftermarket products and other specialized automotive marketing concepts.

Cabinetmaking
Students receive instruction in basic and advanced cabinetmaking techniques and installation. Training includes knowledge of machine tools as well as planning, designing and selection of materials.
Prerequisite: 1 semester of high school woodshop, cabinet pre-apprentice requires completion of cabinetmaking.

Computer Repair
Using current technology, this course prepares students to operate, maintain and repair computers. This program will also prepare students to take the Computer Industry COMPTIA A+ certification test. Course includes complete hands-on training in the use, repair, upgrading, and configuring of computers, as well as an overview of the computer industry. Course will concentrate on effective troubleshooting and maintenance techniques. Integrated throughout the course are career preparation standards, which include communication, interpersonal skills, problem-solving, safety, technology, and other employment skills. Students who complete this course should contact their college counselor regarding advanced standing and/or challenging introductory computer servicing courses at Mt. San Antonio College and Chaffey College.

Criminal Justice
This course introduces students to the various career areas and activities associated with the criminal justice system. Students will participate in an intense nine-week course that will cover the roles of the various agencies involved in the Criminal Justice system. Students will receive instruction on different agencies including police departments, sheriff’s departments, federal law enforcement agencies, and private security. Topics covered include crime scene investigation, criminal procedures, search and seizure, criminal law, and firearms training. Career preparation and academic standards are integrated throughout the course. Students who complete this course should contact their community college counselor regarding advanced standing.

Digital Design
This course will provide students with the skills to develop a broad perspective of art, design, communication theory, processes and tools and their applications in Multimedia Communications and Design. Students will apply design elements and principles to projects such as digital media, website design and print media publications. Students will use technology tools that allow them to incorporate text, graphic, sounds, animation and video into their projects. Students that achieve competency will have an opportunity for employment as multimedia artist/graphic and cartoonist.

Graphic Communications/Print Technology
Training is designed to expose students to all phases of printing. Course includes computer typesetting and operation of several types of presses, cameras, plate makers, and bindery. Course also includes screen-printing techniques and equipment operation.

Landscape Maintenance
This course is designed to teach students the skills necessary to hold an entry-level job in the field of landscaping. This course demonstrates the use of planning and effectively designing, installing, and maintaining a landscape for the homeowner. Skills are taught in plant classification, principles of plant physiology and growth, plant reproduction, pathology and pests, plant nutrition, soil and water management, pruning methods, turf grass, and equipment management and safety. Landscape design is also covered which includes site analysis, structures, surveying, and measurement. Career preparation standards are integrated throughout the course.

Manufacturing Technician
This course prepares students for employment or advanced training in the area of Machine Shop Operator using appropriate current machine tools. Students will be introduced to metal working tool identification and terminology, machine tool set-up and operation, planning and layout processes, material selection and application, applied machine tool operations, inspection and quality control and automated the manufacturing process. Integrated throughout the course are career preparation and academic content standards.

Masonry
Masonry is an introduction into the field of masonry which prepares students for entry level positions. The class is an overview of the masonry trade including the history and origin of masonry construction, tools and equipment, safety, basic fundamentals of mortar preparation and application, and the use of various masonry products. Brick masons build walls, partitions, arches, fireplaces, chimneys, and other structures. Career preparation and academic standards are integrated throughout the course. This class is recommended for Boys Republic students only.

Network Security
This course prepares students for further study in specialized computer/network security fields. Students will learn the purpose and goals of network security policies, the need for authentication, how to identify and explain the different types of attacks that affect the confidentiality of networks. This course also introduces students to web security, virtual private networks, and intrusion detection. Students will develop skills that allow them to identify network vulnerabilities and how to safeguard against them. Particular emphasis is taken in administration and troubleshooting techniques that include decision-making and problem-solving techniques in applying science, mathematics, and communication concepts. Integrated throughout the course are career preparation standards, which include basic academic skills, communication, interpersonal skills, problem solving, safety, technology and other employment skills.

Nursery Practices
This course offers an introduction to agricultural nursery techniques. The course will cover plant propagation, plant identification, demonstration gardens, growing container plants, soil preparation, nursery sales and record keeping techniques. Students are introduced to agricultural nursery practices and are able to identify plants, grow container plants and ground covers, develop gardens, prepare soils, and demonstrate sales and record keeping skills.

Photography
This course will prepare students for a position in the photography industry. Classroom and lab instruction includes the development of basic photography skills, the history of photography and art, the operation of a wide variety of photographic equipment including cameras and film processors, digital imaging, and sales and marketing techniques. Students will study basic professional skills necessary to be successful in the fields of wedding, portrait and commercial photography. Emphasis will be placed on entrepreneurial aspects of photography.

Plumbing
This course is designed to provide students with the essential skills needed to become a plumber. Students will learn basic plumbing tool usage; how to identify fixtures, faucets, and valves; plumbing applications; safety practices; lifting and handling techniques; plumbing codes; system and theory; how to identify major appliances, piping systems, repairs and procedures, insulation; understanding mathematics of fluid flow, isometric and orthographic drawing, layout and ground work, venting, water, and gas lines, solar systems, appliance wiring, and flush valves.

Stage Design and Technology
This three level course is designed to provide students with skills, knowledge and attitude to work backstage on theatrical productions or other live entertainment events. Develop planning and organizational skills necessary to work behind the scenes (including theatrical lighting, stage management, and sound reinforcement). Learn the terminology used in the “business”. Learn reliability, responsibility, and the ability to work independently and as a team player to create “magic” on stage.

Video Production
This course is designed to provide students with the necessary skills and knowledge that are essential for entry-level employment with a cable studio or television production company. This course is articulated with Chaffey College for the Entertainment Technology Career Path.

Web Site Design
Students will learn to create web sites that contain information in the form of text and graphics. Web pages can serve any communicative purpose, and the information contained in them can be of any imaginable sort and may contain “links”, special hypertext or icons that, when clicked on with a computer’s mouse, transport the reader to a related page or a different web site altogether. Web Site Designers start with information or data to be published on the WWW.
